Videos can be made by many devices like camcorders, web-cams, screen capture programs, cell phones, combo digital cameras (video/stills), etc. External devices will be connected to a computer (usually the USB port) and the video is copied to the computer’s hard drive.

Video that ends up on a computer is going to be in one of several video file formats. So as long as the video you have is the format that is supported by, say YouTube or whatever then you’re good to go. But having a good video editing program will accommodate just about any video file format and thus you can make fun video projects to post on YouTube, burn them to DVD, etc.

If your camera doesn’t record audio, just make your own. You can add a music soundtrack or narrate your video in your video editing program. Your computer most likely has a voice recorder program and surely has a microphone jack. Or you can use a separate recording device. If you ever see a film crew working, you always see a sound man with headphones on and a boom mic on a long pole. The pouch the soundman wears carries a field recorder. Audio recorded by a video camera isn’t ideal so the sound man using the recorder can balance the audio and he can direct his mic for the best audio. Then the audio is mated in post later. Its done more than you think.
