To me, the iPad seems just like a giant iPod touch. How are they different? Does the iPad have different capabilities? I already have an iPod touch, so would it be a waste to get an iPad?

iPad has a bigger screen, some apps catered for the iPad, and more expensive models have AT&T 3G for data connectivity. If these things are not as important to you, it might not be worth the money to buy an iPad. Let’s face it – for the price of an iPad, you can buy a computer to support your iPod.
The difference between an iPhone, and iPod Touch is the iPhone has cellular services, integrated phone, integrated SMS/MMS, and can support handsfree bluetooth.

I just bought a new AV receiver, a Yamaha RX-V465. (http://cdn.cnetcontent.com/0b/09/0b09df1d-678f-4d88-9835-c3d3c3707212.pdf)
My first attempt here is to use the receiver to connect my Comcast HD cable box to my TV.
The TV (Phillips 50PF7321D37, about five years old) has an HDMI connection on the back, and so of course I connected an HDMI cable from there to the “HDMI Out” connection on the back of the receiver.
Now for the cable box. It does not have an HDMI port, so that’s out of the question. There is a row of jacks that has a Red/White pair labeled “Audio Out”, and then a set of Green/Blue/Red jacks labeled “Video.” I was thinking that was the way to go in connecting to the receiver.
The receiver has an input area called “AV1″ with Component Video inputs (green/blue/red), and I plugged those three into those jacks. Elsewhere, it has an input area called “Audio” with a red/white pair of jacks, to which I connected the remaining two leads from the cable box. (I have also tried this with a different input area on the receiver “AV5″, which has the red/white jacks, plus a yellow jack. This alternative made no difference.)
So I have everything connected as described above. When I select the “AV1″ input on my receiver, the message on the front of the receiver comes up “Decoder Off”. I have no idea what that even means. The TV has different inputs to select, and I have set it for HDMI. (There are set up settings for the TV, and I have tried changing the “HDMI” setting to “HD,” “Cable, “and “Other” — all with no effect.)
Bottom line, there is no video or audio feed to my TV. HELP!!!

The Audio Output to your SPKRS..will require a Audio-INPUT Selection//
..like,,TV,,DVD,,CD-Player,,Tape/CDR,,Cable Box…Satellite,,
If your Yamaha Amplifier has a HDMI…output..that would be for a DVR’s..(input)..
You want to first look at the back of your Cable-BOX..
..use its BEST…audio signal..Co-AX(audio)is Digital Audio(Dolby-Digital)..run that to your Yamaha(input)..Selection—TV..or..Cable BOX…look on your Remote Control for your choixces..then run the Video OUTPUT—like HDMI…to the Video Monitor..(input)HDMI…don’t use a Video Co-AX cable(they suck)..
If you must..use the Yellow Composite Cable–Yellow Video cable..run that to the TV-Monitor..
Next…look at the back of the TV-Monitor for a Audio OUTPUT–run that back to the Yamaha Amplifier..choose a Selection..like Analog(L&R)..TV…you should have a JOG…Selection..//
Digtial-or-Analog..devices..
The Yamaha Amplifier will use its Converter to playback eveything in Digital Format..

Question by katie: How can I contact Apple about ideas for the new firmware for ipod touch?
I want to submit a request to Apple for the next ipod touch firmware. I want to be able to change the homescreen without jailbreaking.
I am a fan of jailbreaking, but unfortunately I don’t think you can jailbreak the ipod touch 2nd generation.
I have tried QuickPwn, but when i use it when it gets to the “Choose your firmware” part i choose it, but the blue arrow stays inactive and grey.
Any suggestions on either jailbreaking it or how to contact apple?

You can’t jailbreak the 2Gen just yet. Stop trying, wait, and hope.
You can contact Apple, Inc. all you like. They have a Contact us page http://www.apple.com/contact/, but I doubt that Steve Jobs and fellow engineers will listen to your humble opinion (I’ve tried to contact them. They replied with a form letter.)
On the other hand, the jailbreak should be coming soon. Team Chronic is working on it as you read this. Hopefully, it will be here before too long.

I’ve been thinking about getting an iPad. I was wondering if it had any sort of external speakers (or like the iPhone, doesn’t, but still can project sound)? And also if you can plug a regular headphone jack into it. The iPad has a speaker built-in. It’s along one edge, just to the right of where you’d plug it in or dock it. On the opposite edge, there is a headphone jack. So it plays sound just on it’s own without any accessories (and pretty well too), or you can plug in external speakers or headphones as you wish.

The short answer; generally yes.
The longer answer; It depends if you already have WiFi access at home. You might be able to get free ‘net from your neighbours.
If not, you’ll need to get a WiFi access point, but your modem might already have this built in. If not, they shouldnt be any more than $ 50
Or, if you’ve got a fairly recent mac, you can turn that into a WiFi access point for free

You can jailbreak your Ipad, although it would diminish your warranty, but you could then used external hard drives, if it was me, I wouldn’t jailbreak it.
The safari web browser in essence is almost exact;y the same than the iphone’s safari web browser, but due to the larger screen, it gives you the freedom of the proper safari web browser. So it feels like a computer web browser (although there isn’t flash)
There isn’t Microsoft office, but apple’s version which is called “iWork.” There is Pages (word/publisher), Numbers (excel) and Keynote (powerpoint.) I believe you can export them to Microsoft compatible files with only few issues
