I was lucky and purchased it through amazon in June for 50% off (pre-order). I got two upgrades - one for my laptop running Vista with 3GB ram and one for desktop running Win7 RC with 1GB ram.

Both Vista Upgrade as well as desktop clean install were very smooth, system is very stable - after a month of use no blue screen of death yet. It's a bit faster than Vista and I really like the new taskbar and simplified menus.

so far I'm very happy

I love the improvements in this edition vice XP and Vista. I also like the fact that if you do choose to convert back to your old programs it gives you the option before starting the program. It allows you to use the older programs to complete documents and play games that have not made it to Windows 7 yet. The 7 also maximizes screen display by not showing all those desktop folders that we love to click on at a glance which improves performance. My older version printers and hardware had no installation problems.

I can remember when Vista first came out. I was probably the first fool to buy it. I ran a dual boot using xp and vista.
Well, I never used Vista after the first annoying week. It was slow and irritating.

When Windows 7 arrived, I installed it over Vista and to my surprise I did not have to re-install files to let XP boot up again.
This sufisticated windows "finally" accepts a dual boot system!

Now I am using windows 7 more than my old buddy "XP".

The only scare I had was windows "mail" or "outlook express" was not loaded. I did download it after windows 7 installed and it found all my e-mail files and address book as well.

The only thing I had to upgrade was my Dell printer.

I will still keep XP as some older games do not work in windows 7, even by using the compatibility wizard, but I found the new upgrade to be worth the money.

Certain things, like the mouse buttons, etc. can be tweaked and changed in windows 7 and the help and search blow XP away!

For the average user, I recommend buying a system with Windows 7 already installed. For those who are using XP and are happy with it, keep it till you upgrade to a new computer.

Pros; The installation went smoother than expected. Everything works as advertised. I did have to find a print driver for HP 6940BT, It found and completed my network, Media center, and Multi screens with no problems.
Cons; I have three (3) computer, and now would like to install the upgrade on the others. I now find that for $20.00 more I could have the 3 computer upgrade. Microsoft wants me to buy a new upgrade again. I can return the this copy and pay the shipping and restocking fee. There lose not mine.

I despise Microsoft so this review is hardly unbiased. Installation was difficult because many older updates had to be installed first. After several hours it was finally ready. Using this product did not seem much better the the crappy Vista it replaced. After using Leopard, this pretty much sucks. In all seriousness, I feel bad-a little-for people who have to use this full time.

Windows 7 is the next version of Microsoft's OS. This version is what Vista should have been and is a great next OS for those that have been waiting (as I was) for the next viable upgrade solution for Windows XP. The Family pack of Windows 7 is the most cost effective way to upgrade several (3) computers within the home. It should be note that although it is a three user license pack, the product only comes with one license key that can be used three times. For some this may be of interest if the plan was to buy the one product and share with a friend or neighbor. As always Amazon shipped in a timely factor and the product arrived shortly after the official Windows 7 release date.

I like this version best of all versions of Windows. I would have given it 5 (five) stars, but I didn't like the fact that it would only alow you to pick microsoft items for media playing and web surfing for default setings. It also asked you to pick your choices every time you logged on until you did pick them.
Otherwise it is GREAT. Faster startups and faster shutdowns. The only operating systems that have beat these times is my Linux systems.

first computer: Install over vista home basic upgrade version. Windows 7 would not install over Vista upgrade. On phone with MS. two hours later they could not resolve problem. They said they would have a higher level tech call back. They were very polite and cooperative but couldn't come up with a way to install 7 on the computer. Searched internet for a solution. It said that I had to do a fresh install of the Windows 7 by first installing 7 without entering key code them reinstalling within the first 7 install then entering the key code. Very complicated.
Second computer: Install over vista premium full version. Upgrade within vista premiom went without problem.
Third computer: Install will again be over vista home basic upgrade version reluctant to do fresh install because the wife has a lot of pictures on computer. Install on this computer on hold.

Had Vista on two machines, bought the family pack and upgraded one to 32 bit HP and the other to 64 bit HP. Had issues with switchable discrete graphics, but a BIOS update from Lenovo had me up and running just fine.

Overall a smooth transition and 7 is great.

NOTE: Microsoft sells this product for $150 on the MS online store. I don't know why anyone would spend $200 or more here for what is selling from the manufacturer for $150.

Prompt delivery on release day, love the family pack pricing, install was EFFORTLESS! I did a fresh install, as I prefer to do always if possible, and W-7 sailed right through, detecting my network, internet connection, analog TV tuner card, etc., etc. Took about an hour each for my desktop Dell unit, and about the same for the wife's Toshiba laptop. The only thing which was remotely complicated was when it put the laptop into hibernate mode after awhile, and the wife didn't know how to wake it and did a forced shutdown with the power button. It had trouble restarting and restored an earlier install, pre-iTunes, so I had to reload that, educated the wife and disable the snooze mode.

how do you install newer better windows on a microsoft millenium windows?

i bought a new printer. the printer says it goes with windows vista, 2000 or xp. i also bought a digital camera. i tried to install both but it says my windows is not compatible. my windows is a microsoft windows millenium edition, is there any free windows downloads here on the internet i can download that is newer better version that my printer and digital camera will be compatible with?

Answer
No. Microsoft does not provide any kind of free upgrade from older versions to newer versions, only Service Packs within versions to fix bugs, problems, security holes, etc. If you are running Windows ME, it is also quite possible that the machine you have is not capable of running XP (which is the version you will want to most likely get, you can find it at various places but know that Microsoft is not going to support it very much longer and has stopped making it). Your best bet is to note all the specs of your computer (including CPU, motherboard, RAM [both type and how much: you will want minimally 512 MB]) size of hard drive and so on. Then take those specs (or take the computer) to a good computer service store, talk to them about upgrading. You are essentially 8 years out of date this time; you might find that getting a new computer will be easier and cheaper, depending on what you actually have.

How do I download microsoft windows security updates using a download manager?

I use free download manager software to download files and would like to use it to download microsoft windows security updates. If I use windows automatic updates it eats up my system resources and slows down my internet connection so i would like to try an alternative method to downloading the updates.
