The Dell GX280 was purchased to replace an 8 year old Dell 4400 that just died. The major selling point was the price ($204 shipped), it had Windows XP and a big HDD. I use it for general surfing, and lots of photowork. It has exceeded my expectations.

The vendor, EZbuycafe, delivered it well packed and safe in less than a week! The ease of purchase was amazing. It worked perfectly out of the box and is on line now. I have found that refurb or used Dell's are cost effective and quick replacements when something goes down. I am very happy with Amazon, EZbuycafe, and this Dell GX280. If you can find a GX280 at this price, grab it. Recommended

Dell GX280 SFF in a regular tower case?

Is there any way I can stick a Dell GX280 SFF (motherboard, cd, hard drive, etc.) into a regular tower case? Do I have to make some precautions on which cases I am able to use?

Answer
Your Dell motherboard may be a MicroATX motherboard. Make sure your new big case can support MicroATX form factor. Everything else should be standard fit.

Will a XFX Nvidia 8600 GTS video card fit and work in my Dell GX280 small mini-tower edition?

I want to upgrade my computer and I just want to double check that this card will fit AND work in my computer. Dell Optiplex gx280 SMT

Answer
hi nimia there are a few problems that you are going to encounter and the first is the lack of a pci-express x16 bus(slot) which is required to use the geforce 8600gts then theres the size of your pc case, and if its one of the dell optiplex desktop size case then the 8600gts wont be able to physically fit in your case your best bet is to open the case and inspect the motherboard and checking what avalible slots you have,i may be wrong and you may have a pci-express x16 slot and you may be able to fit the 8600gts in your case since sizes of cards vary from one manufactuer to the other however i have come across some excellent photo,s of a dell optiplex and from what i can see the case is more than big enough to house the 8600gts and by the looks of it theres a avalible pci-express x16 slot on the motherboard..check it out : http://www.flickr.com/photos/madjoker/2888872547/ so as long as your pc is the same type your in business,,however one more bit of advice...power supply! allthough the geforce 8600gts isnt the most power hungry of cards it still requires a 400watt or more power supply with at least 18A on the +12v rail, and since dell tend to fit 300watt psu,s in their optiplex models this needs to be checked out any problems let me know good luck !

graphics card for dell optiplex gx280?

I got a dell optiplex gx280 mini tower and was wondering if an ATI all in wonder hd card would fit ok in this machine. Not sure if there are spacing issues since it is such a small tower. I know I would have to upgrade the power supply too. Thanks

is this computer worth it?

Specs, Dell GX280 Full tower Desktop P4 2.8GHz Hyper threading CPU 1GB memory (upgradable to 4GB) 80GB Hard drive (open stop for an extra drive if you need it) 128MG onboard Video (open PCI Xpress slot) CD Burner they sell it for `30 bucks. im planning to use it for games like counterstrike, gta sa, and assasins creed. will it run these games smoothly?

Answer
The computer is worth the $30. As Far as playing those games, you are going to have to invest some more money in another gig of RAM and a decent video card.
