Here is a homemade piano (or electric keyboard) made from the BX-24 microcontroller, a few scrap aluminum strips, some nuts & bolts, some old Cat-V networking cable, and a Radio Shack audio amplifier. (The keys are colored with electrical tape.) The BX-24 is manufactured by NetMedia and is programmed using their BasicX language. I am using Robodyssey Systems’ RAMB II motherboard to interface with the BX-24. I am the author of the world’s only BasicX textbook; if you are interested in learning how to program your own robot (or keyboard), see my website at www.basicxandrobotics.com. Here are brief instructions on how to make your own piano: The keys are aluminum strips that my students cut them from a very thin aluminum plate using an old paper cutter. I used metal bolts to secure the keys to a piece of Plexiglas. (You can readily see these in the video.) Before tightening the screws down, I wrapped a wire around one of the posts. The other end was connected to the BX-24′s signal pin. (This is very easy to do if you use Robodyssey’s RAMB II motherboard.) Next, I put another bolt directly under the key, but not touching the key. (If you look closely, you can see these bolts under the keys.) To this bolt I secured another wire, which lead to the ground pin on the RAMB II motherboard. Question by Matthew C.: Direct TV or Dish Network HD?
I just got permission to mount a satellite dish on my balcony in my apartment since you have to ask first, Now I’m stuck with choices. I’m a massive TV Watcher, Watch a some football, Maybe some reality shows while I’m at it, even cartoons. Yet that’s not the point. What do I get, Direct TV or Dish Network? I got a 1080p HDTV with a decent surround sound, and I’m looking for the best picture quality, and the best sound network, and also a decent price! Your opinion. Thanks (and please don’t say “Don’t get either, get cable” I can’t cause the owner said no to HD Channels.)

Direct tv that is what we have, only thing I hate about it that if it rains really hard it does out but it has to rain hard it doesnt stay out very long

Question by dnhsguy02: My home theater system stopped working?
I have a Philips 5.1 home theater system that has a built in DVD player. On the back of the receiver, there are no audio outs, but a “monitor cable” looking plug. That cable goes to the subwoofer where all the speakers connect. Now, for the past few months, when powering up, the speakers used to make a crackling noise like a speaker “engine” was revving up. Once it was ‘revved’, they would turn off. I would press “mute, mute” and they would work. Now they finally got exhausted. The system doesn’t work anymore. I noticed the fan on the back of the subwoofer no longer blows. This means that the sub doesn’t work, so the speakers can’t work. Is there any way to check this out? I don’t think it’s blown, cause that would have made the speakers go out quick, not slowly die after a couple of months.

sounds like its a powered subwoofer, could be a blown fuse or the amp itself is blown. my amp went on my powered sub and i had it fixed at a small electronics repair shop for $ 50 parts and labor

Question by acessdeneyed: USB Data transfer cable?
I got a Garmin nüvi270 for Christmas. When I connect it to my computer it powers itself down. Customer support told me this happens because I am using an incompatible USB cable. Upon further prodding he told me the cable I am using must not be a “data transfer” cable and suggested I buy a cable from Garmin because USB cables from PDAs and cell phones don’t work since they are not “data transfer cables”.
This sounds like a bunch of bull to me. I wasn’t aware there was more than one type of USB cable. Anyone know anything about this? Should I call back and insist they find a real solution?

This does sound like bovine excrement – mini USB is mini USB.
however, from Personal experience, some mini USB cables work – some do not.
best one to use with a picky device is a short, fat cable.
