It seams a host of new viruses are coming out this month. York Computer Repair is seeing an increase in both the level of sophistication and volume of viruses hitting customers computers. Viruses include:
- Antivirus 2010
- worm.Opnis
- Trojan-PWS.Bancos
Fortunately we are running the required tools to clean these infections. Norton and the usual scanners are not having the impact I would hope on these new variations of common viruses. If you run into these call a professional to have them removed.
Often these viruses can be removed remotely but a certain percentages will require the PC to be taken back to the shop and have the hard drive removed and scanned with an external computer.
A client of mine is using Google apps for his email. The company recently switched over to Google apps for their email handling from their own inhouse service. Google apps is great, but when things go wrong, where do you turn?
Their most recent problem was a user account was suspended for abuse. Next, to the notice of abuse, was a small link explaining that the user violated Google’s TOS. If you run into this problem and have not violated the TOS, keep reading.
The quick fix:
- The Google Apps Administrator needs to do the following.
- Change the user password via the Admin Control Panel
- Next, require user to change the password on next login
- Save changes, notify user
The user will then be required to access their email with the password you just changed. The user will also be required to enter a CAPTCHA. After that step, the user will be required to enter a new password. This should resolve the problem. Please note this is for accounts suspended for abuse. If your account does not say abuse there are different methods of resolving the issue. This particular client mistyped the CAPTCHA and password several times, hence auto-suspending the account.
The Google mail forums are great help centers for getting assistance from other users.
This one is wierd. Occassionaly you get those wifi connections that just don’t make sense. I had a customer contact me with no internet connection after an update.
It didn’t look good, no card in device manager and nothing seemed to work. I removed the card and reinstalled without any luck. I went and updated windows with everything update I could find (except the office live stuff). After several installs and reboots the card showed up again. The weird thing is that non of these updates had to do with networking. This laptop was a v6048cl Compaq.
PS no malware or spyware issues either. Weird fix. ** update, fix didn’t last long, my determination is a bad card or mobo. It looks like the from the forums it’s a bad mobo. I would recommend a express card to get wifi. That way if you by a new wificard then and it’s the motherboard then you just wasted your money. An express card will get around the wifi card.
